Approve plasma injection against Covid-19 into clinical trials

The Issue

At this moment, many leading scientists are spearheading and proposing a plasma shot injection to function as a short-term vaccine for Covid-19. With no guarantee of a vaccine, this is likely the next best thing.

An immune globulin shot, using antibodies against Covid-19, works by using technologies that have been already proven safe in other diseases. It even exists in intravenous form for Covid-19, which has been shown to work. This sort of shot would likely provide months of immunity for patients. Production and scaling it up would be relatively cheap and easy. So why isn't it happening?

Dr. Michael Oxman and Dr. John Zaia have been working on this pioneering research, and have been shunned by both the federal government and pharmaceutical companies. Federal officials refuse to approve a plasma shot into clinical trials, and have already rejected the idea two times. Pharmaceutical companies refuse to design and produce such a vaccine. Why?

Money.

An infectious disease expert anonymously told the LA Times, "They charge a fortune off of intravenous drugs in the hospital. They don’t want to devote the manufacturing plant to something that won’t make oodles of money."

Pharmaceutical companies acknowledge and realize that this shot is likely to work, but refuse to design or produce it in fears of losing money to an eventual vaccine. Companies are not willing to invest in a product that may soon be replaced, and so due to money, many innocent lives may be lost due to the inaction of the federal government and pharmaceutical companies.

So during the greatest pandemic of our lifetime, companies refuse to provide a treatment due to fear of losing money, the federal government is slow and inept to act, and thousands innocent lives will be lost to these mistakes.

Sign this petition to approve clinical testing for a immune globulin shot.
