We are still fighting to save Markham Hill even though the City of Fayetteville approved the developer's requests on Oct 2, 2018 for the two rezonings.
1. We would like to see Sonia Gutierrez and Teresa Turk elected for the Ward 1 and Ward 4 positions on the Fayetteville City Council in the runoff election on Dec 4. They have shown themselves to truly care about the residents in our neighborhoods, the environment, and our trees.
2. Dr. Rob Karas has filed to appeal the two Oct 2, 2018 rezonings in the Washington County Circuit Court. We believe we have good evidence to support this effort. If you would like to help financially with lawyer fees, please let me know. We will send you more information later. Write Lisa Orton at lisa_m_orton@yahoo.com.
3. We are going to stay alert and keep each other and local residents informed on every request by the developer to the City concerning Markham Hill. We want the City to require every possible survey, evaluation, and analysis (environmental, ecological, trees, endangered species of plants and animals, Native American sites, traffic, fire, sewer, storm water and flooding, etc); we want the results of each study made public for evaluation by the surrounding neighborhoods and all of Fayetteville; and we want every building permit limited to protect Markham Hill as much as possible.
4. I wrote Robert M Dant of the Oregon-based RMD Properties, the current owner of the 144-acre Markham Hill property who hired Specialized Real Estate Group to develop the property. I asked Mr. Bob Dant if he would prayerfully consider helping us make all of Markham Hill a nature and wildlife preserve. I received the returned signature postcard from my certified letter, but no response from Mr. Dant yet.
