This is an important week!

The next City Council meeting to discuss the future of Markham Hill is Tuesday Oct 2 at City Hall at 5:30pm. They may make a decision that night.

Please write the City Council today opposing the Markham Hill rezonings and explain why. Some of the reasons are below. Send your letter to ssmith@fayetteville-ar.gov.

If you live in Fayetteville, please attend the Oct 2 meeting and speak for 3-5 minutes at the podium. You could talk about the contents of your letter and/or other reasons why you oppose the rezoning. We need you!

Current zoning:
Still gives the developer the right to develop 50 acres of RSF-4 on the west side of the mountain (but saves a very important 94 acres)

If rezoned:
- inappropriate development (commercial, high density residential) for the surrounding University Heights neighborhood (low density rural residential)
- excessive traffic, the rural and residential roads in the area can't handle the quantity of additional vehicles
- sewage pipe overload
- destruction of urban forest and wildlife
- increased air and water pollution
- more carbon emissions
- flooding of properties on lower elevations because of the springs and impervious surfaces
- not attainable or affordable houses
- destroys unsurveyed Native American sites
- destroys 46 acres of historic Markham Camp on Arkansas Register of Historic Places
- destroys the many mature, significant trees
- harms and insensitive to the historic culture and character of the University Heights neighborhood of which Markham Hill is a part
- etc.

Thank you for your support and participation.
