Father of two daughters - UNJUSTLY taken from his family!

The Issue

A sympathetic victim, a suspect with a checkered past, law enforcement’s desire to hold someone accountable, and defense counsel that dropped the ball, created a “Perfect Storm” which has stolen a decade of this man’s life.

Hello. My friend of 30+ years, David Camenetti, is currently serving a 32 year sentence for a crime that never happened. You heard me right. I am not saying he did not commit the crime. I am saying it never happened.

On January 28, 2013, 8-month old [Redacted] was taken to the emergency room. He was brought in by his parents who said he was sitting on a kitchen counter top in an unsecured baby seat. He fell on his head yet no X-ray, CT Scan or MRI was performed.

9 days later, on February 6th, [Redacted] father Chris asked his friend, David Camenetti to watch [Redacted] for him so that Chris could go job hunting. The two of them knew one another from working together as NCAA basketball referees.

Later that day, David says he called Chris to tell him something was wrong with [Redacted] and he needed him to come, which created a cascade of events that ended with David Camenetti sentence to 32 years in prison. David was married with two young daughters that he cared for during days while his wife [Redacted] worked days and David worked nights. His daughters are the light of his life but, unfortunately, after 2 years of incarceration, his wife decided to divorce him, cut ALL ties, leaving him to rot in prison alone with no family.

The state of Colorado has robbed this man of a decade of his life. Full disclosure, he was earlier convicted of a serious crime when he was 19 and served 11 years in prison. He was a dumb kid, no one was hurt and importantly, no children were involved.

A sympathetic victim, a suspect with a checkered past, law enforcement’s desire to hold someone accountable, and defense counsel that dropped the ball, created a “Perfect Storm” which has stolen a decade of this man’s life.

I was the Best Man for his wedding and here’s what I can, with all sincerity, tell you about David Camenetti:

-       He has always been a motivated, dedicated and reliable hard worker.

-       David has never struggled with substance abuse. No drugs and little interest in alcohol.

-       He is a devoted and loving father.

David has spent every dime he has (and then some) on an attorney to plead his case with the Jefferson County Conviction Integrity Unit and has sought Clemency from Governor Polis.
