Dear supporters!
First off, we hope you were successful in starting to hand back the excessive plastic packaging when you shopped at Farm Boy stores over the last couple weeks. Keep it up! It's a great signal to send to grocery stores that we don't need or want the plastic!!!
If you're ready to take more action on plastic pollution, its not too late to join in the fantastic and fun challenge that is Plastic Free July (www.plasticfreejuly.org "Plastic Free July provides resources and ideas to help you (and millions of others around the world) reduce single-use plastic waste everyday at home, work, school, and even at your local café."
Some of you have asked why we've directed this petition towards Farm Boy when other stores such as Loblaws, Metro and Sobeys are no better in terms of excessive plastic packaging in their stores. The reasons are that there already exist hugely successful petitions directed at Canada's largest grocery retailers (see links below to support them as well!!!) and that we genuinely love to shop at Farm Boy and we really want them to become a true leader in sustainability as our world begins to adapt to the plastic crisis. Furthermore, myself and the other co-authors of this petition live in Ottawa, home to 16 Farm Boy stores. For many Ottawa residents Farm Boy is their neighbourhood store!
Thank you again for supporting this petition to encourage Farm Boy stores to ditch the excessive plastic packaging and adopt truly sustainable practices in their stores. We're definitely making change with this petition and will soon be approaching Farm Boy directly, and also their parent company which is Sobeys. Please continue to support the petition by discussing it when you speak with friends, family and colleagues and by sharing it on social media and via email.
Sincerely,
Eugenie, Jos and Marie-Eve
