We've reached over 3800 signatures on our campaign - thank you all so much for your support of the petition and for sharing it with friends and family!!! As we push towards our goal of 5000 signatures, we've got a challenge for you! Are you ready to take some action?
For 10 days starting this Thursday June 20th whenever you are at the check-out at a Farm Boy store stand at the end of the till while they ring through your purchases. Remove all the unnecessary plastic packaging from your purchases as you pack your items in your reusable grocery bags (ie. the plastic wrapping on your cauliflower, the plastic clam-shell for your lettuce, tomatoes or strawberries, the plastic carry bag for your grapes, etc). You may need to tell the cashier that you would like to pack your own bags as Farm Boy often helps pack bags for their customers. Bring some extra cloth bags or reusable containers to transport loose items like grapes or cherry tomatoes home. You may also decide to bring a small pair of scissors to make opening some plastic wrappers more efficient. In a friendly and respectfully manner, give back the plastic packaging to the cashier as you pack up your purchases. Take the opportunity to have a brief conversation with the staff and explain why you don't want all the excessive plastic packaging and why plastic pollution matters to you! Remember to be considerate and polite while you hand back the plastic, and be confident too! Know that you're not alone - many people will be doing the same thing during this 10-day period from June 20th-30th at their local Farm Boy store!!!
If you want to take it one step further, take a photo of the pile of excess plastic packaging that you leave behind. Post it on instagram or twitter with the following hashtags #officialfarmboy #FarmBoyDitchPlastic #Ridiculouspackaging #BreakFreeFromPlastic. Most importantly, please remember to keep kindness, dialogue and respectful interactions at the heart of this collective action!!!
