As part of our campaign to help refugees reunite with their families in Germany, the Mobile Info Team has been collecting letters from people affected by the flight restrictions and sending them to the German Interior Ministry. Last week, the German government replied with a letter that comes as a slap to the face for all the affected families in Greece and Germany. It claims that the government “takes into account the particular circumstances” of both the people stuck in limbo in Greece and their family members in Germany. You can find the full letter here: http://bit.ly/2sTKusB, and the answer here: http://bit.ly/2tmFdJK In reality, the German government is completely failing to take the circumstances of the affected families into account, or to act with empathy. The situation has not changed in Greece. People continue to wait and if the situation continues some families could be kept apart unlawfully for up to three more years. The frustration and suffering of the affected refugees is being ignored and their rights under EU law are being denied. We must continue to fight against these illegal and inhumane restrictions. It is encouraging and overwhelming that more than 25.000 people have already signed this petition. Together we can make a change for all the separated families. Politicians in the German and European parliaments are starting to react, but we have a lot more that still needs to be done. Please help us by - emailing your Member of the European Parliament, to tell them that families are being kept apart illegally and ask them to take action. You can find an example letter here: http://bit.ly/2ucIqQD - tweeting your Member of the European Parliament and the German Interior Ministry - find some suggestions for tweets below: @[member of parliament] #deMaizière’s illegaly separating children and parents.
