The Issue

Update! I have now been informed that i am my brothers emergency contact and at this time after a month of contacting the Metropolitan detention center i have been informed my brother is under a doctor's care but in solitary confinement and unable to contact us but is now doing much better but if I'm his emergency contact why was it not an emergency to contact me in regards to what is going on,  what does the Metropolitan detention center consider an emergency, death? Because death is after an emergency.  Please share to get someone to change their protocols in regards to families getting timely information, before death occurs.

My brother is currently incarcerated, and the only information we receive about his wellbeing is the phrase, "no call is a good call." This leaves us in a constant state of anxiety and uncertainty, as we have to wait for a grim call from the authorities informing us of any injuries or worse, should he pass away. It is crucial that family members of those incarcerated do not have to endure this endless worry and helplessness.

Families deserve transparency and communication regarding the status and health of their loved ones who are incarcerated. Incarceration is not just a punishment for the individual; it affects entire families who have a right to know whether their loved ones are safe, healthy, or need additional support.

Prisons must establish clear and efficient communication protocols to inform family members promptly about the wellbeing of inmates. Affected families should be able to receive timely updates, alleviating their anxiety, and allowing them to provide aid or address issues as soon as they arise.

The current policy creates unnecessary suffering for both the inmate and their families, who are left in the dark about critical situations. Policies should be changed to ensure that family members are recognized as stakeholders in the wellbeing of their incarcerated relatives, with structured systems in place.

Communication gaps can and should be bridged by technology and trained personnel. Implementing a straightforward notification system can ensure relatives are promptly informed, giving them peace of mind and the opportunity to support their family members.

Sign this petition to urge lawmakers and correctional facilities to enact policies ensuring families receive essential information about their loved ones. Your signature can make a difference in advocating for compassion and transparency in the prison system. Help ensure that families are not left in the dark during the most critical moments.
