The Issue

To the honorable Turlock Mayor,  Planning Department, City Council, and the residents of Turlock. We, the undersigned residents, and community supporters, respectfully express our strong support for the proposed Turlock Islamic Center at 1500 Lander Avenue. We kindly suggest from  City of Turlock to consider this proposal. For many years, the local Muslim community has gathered in a temporary facility that no longer meets its needs. Establishing a permanent Islamic Center will provide a safe, accessible, and welcoming place for worship, education, and community service.

The proposed Islamic Center will become part of a community that is already home to a variety of houses of worship, reflecting Turlock’s tradition of religious diversity and community inclusion. The Islamic Center will contribute to that tradition by providing a welcoming place for worship, education, charitable outreach, and positive civic engagement, while participating in the same planning and development process that applies to all other  community institutions.

This project estimated $4 million cost to build which represents a significant investment in the Turlock community where more than $100,000 has already been invested in design, engineering, and related planning efforts, reflecting a strong commitment to responsible development and collaboration with the City’s review process. The project is expected to provide positive economic benefits by creating job opportunities, supporting local businesses, and contributing to the long-term growth and prosperity of the Turlock community.

We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and community members of Turlock, voice our strong support for the construction and establishment of the Turlock Islamic Center. The Muslim congregants of Turlock are law-abiding citizens who contribute positively and significantly to the city and broader local economy. We believe that granting this permit is a matter of religious equity, constitutional freedom, and fair development of the community. By approving this center, the City of Turlock will demonstrate its commitment to religious liberty and support a community that has long invested in the prosperity and well-being of our neighborhoods. We respectfully request that the City Planning Commission and civic leadership reference the public record, and look favorably upon this project to ensure that all citizens have an adequate and dignified place to practice their faith.
