In March of 2024, former GOP Assembly member Michael "Mike" John LiPetri was selected to challenge Congressman Tom Suozzi by Joe Cairo, the Chairman of the Nassau County Republican Party.

Several other individuals, including Bill Cotter, Gregory Hatch, Michael Mandel, and Jim Toes, also declared their candidacy with the intention of offering voters a diverse choice on the ballot for New York's Third Congressional District on June 25, 2024.

However, the promise of choice is being undermined. A legal challenge led by Mike LiPetri, aimed at disqualifying the other four candidates, began when he sued them, contesting the validity of their petition signatures. Remarkably, all challengers were sued by the same attorney, Stephen Louis Martir of the Bee Ready Law Firm.

This maneuver stands contrary to the democratic process. No one should be anointed as a candidate without proper voter engagement. Candidates should earn their place on the ballot by directly interacting with the community and gathering necessary support. It is fundamentally unfair for candidates to face orchestrated challenges from a single, connected group, which seeks to manipulate electoral outcomes.

We urge you to stand up for democratic principles. Sign this petition to demand that Mike LiPetri and Nassau Republican Chairman Joe Cairo cease these exclusionary tactics and support an open, fair, transparent, and competitive primary.
