FAIR PAY FOR GOSTUDENT TUTORS

FAIR PAY FOR GOSTUDENT TUTORS
The Issue
As concerned individuals, we are calling on GoStudent to address the issue of inadequate base pay, which has remained unchanged at £13 per hour for over two years. We request your attention to this matter as it directly affects the well-being and motivation of your dedicated tutors.
As dedicated tutors providing invaluable online tuition services across a wide range of subjects and age groups, we have consistently demonstrated commitment and expertise. However, it is with growing resentment that we witness our hard work, dedication, and contributions go unnoticed and uncompensated. We receive less than 50% of parents’ fees while undertaking almost 100% of the preparation and administrative work.
For over two years, our base pay rate has remained stagnant at £13 per hour, with no justifiable reason for the lack of increase. Meanwhile, it has come to our attention that the average price of lessons per hour for parents has skyrocketed from £21 to £27+. In light of the current economic uncertainty and the high inflation in the United Kingdom, we find the lack of a pay raise unjust and devaluing. £13 in 2021 is equivalent to £15.93 in 2023.
Furthermore, we are concerned about the recent changes to the tutor assignment system. Under the previous system, tutor managers matched tutors to parents, ensuring the distribution of opportunities. However, the new system places the burden of selection solely on parents, resulting in a profoundly inequitable allocation of work. This change not only benefits a select few tutors but also benefits the company's profit margins as GoStudent has to do less work. The lack of rotation in the presentation order of tutors and the removal of the vacancy page have severely hindered our chances of securing students, further compounding our frustration.
In addition to these changes, we have experienced a significant decrease in our no-show pay. Previously, we received £7.50 for lessons that students failed to attend, but this has now been reduced to a meagre £6.50. Decreasing our pay during times of hardship demonstrates a complete lack of respect for our efforts, and it fails to acknowledge the extensive unpaid hours we dedicate to planning lessons and engaging with parents outside of scheduled tutoring sessions.
Given the magnitude of these concerns, we, the profoundly dissatisfied and resolute tutors of GoStudent, demand an immediate and substantial raise in our hourly pay to £18 and that no-show pay increases to £9. This figure is not only an acknowledgement of the current economic landscape and rampant inflation but also a statement of our worth to the company. We refuse to accept anything less than fair compensation that aligns with industry standards and appropriately values our contributions.
The success and reputation of GoStudent are directly linked to the quality and dedication of its tutors, and our current situation is unsustainable.
We understand that maintaining a sustainable business model is essential for any organisation; however, this should not come at the expense of those who contribute significantly towards its success – namely, the talented pool of GoStudent tutors.
Sign this petition and verify your email to demand fair pay for GoStudent tutors and ensure that their invaluable contributions are recognised and rewarded appropriately. Together, we can create a positive change that benefits educators and students.
