Fair Pay and Respect for Smyrna, Delaware Educators — End the 0% Raises Now

Fair Pay and Respect for Smyrna, Delaware Educators — End the 0% Raises Now
The Issue
For consecutive years, [Delaware] Smyrna School District educators have been told their hard work is worth 0%.
Teachers, specialists, nurses, school counselors, paraprofessionals, custodians, and secretaries —the people who keep our schools running and our children learning —have received no pay increase, despite rising living costs and heavier workloads.
Meanwhile, the district pays many of it's administrators over $110,000 annually, with many receiving 100% coverage of their healthcare premiums. Paraprofessionals and custodians earn less than $50,000 a year, and starting teachers with bachelor’s degrees receive the lowest pay of any of the six surrounding districts.
This is not sustainable. It is not fair. And it is not reflective of the values of our community.
We, the undersigned parents, students, alumni, and community members, call on the [Delaware] Smyrna School District Board to:
- Return to the bargaining table with the Delaware State Education Association (DSEA) immediately.
- Offer fair, competitive compensation for all Smyrna educators and support staff
- Commit to transparency and equity in salary and benefits across all district positions.
Our educators deserve more than 0%. They deserve respect, recognition, and a fair wage for their tireless dedication to our children.
Let’s send a clear message: [Delaware] Smyrna stands with its educators.
