The Issue

The workers union of Disability Rights Oregon (WUDRO) needs your support!

By signing this petition, you are showing your support for fair wages and basic respect for a union of public service workers who provide free legal support to Oregonians with Disabilities.

What we are asking for:

Fair Wages:

  • Comparable wages to workers at similar organizations. Our highest paid staff attorney makes under $70,000, and our support staff is paid as little as $29,500. Our Executive Director is paid over $220,000. Union member salaries are far lower than staff at similar legal nonprofits in Portland and our Executive Director’s pay is significantly higher.
  • Retroactive Pay for over a year of contract bargaining. This is a common practice in labor union contract bargaining and management has refused.

Protecting Employees:

  • Seniority layoff clause. In the event of layoffs, we want to guard members from being laid off because of their union involvement. Mandating layoffs in order of seniority protects against this.
  • Clarifying discipline procedure. We want clear rules on how discipline is conducted and what the union can do in the event that management breaks their own rules.

Seat at the Table:

  • Contact with the Board of Directors. Staff is banned from attending board meeting and is explicitly forbidden from communicating with board members. We believe that increased communication between staff and the board will benefit the organization’s decision making process.
  • “Nothing about us without us!” As a union made up entirely of people with disabilities and their caregivers, we believe that our voice should be considered in the operation of an organization that runs on our labor and is dedicated to serving our community. We are asking for periodic meetings that will allow staff to give input and voice concerns, and management has refused.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
