Congratulations! You have helped reach our goal of 500. It is a great milestone. We are on a long journey and we have a long way to go. Next Goal is 1,000. Petitions with 1000 signers succeed!

It’s easy. If each of us signs one more, we will double our total and reach our goal of 1,000.

Reach out to neighborhood associations, listservs, ANCs. Start a discussion. We find once the subject of bikes comes up at a community gathering, everyone has a story. Biking is the only mode of transit that is unregulated. That is not safe. It is an unfortunate oversight in the in the city’s plan to make us safer. Even bikers agree regulation of e-bikes is needed. Of all the possible safety improvements, regulating e-bikes is something most DC residents agree on.

What the e-bike bill will do

DC Safe Streets Coalition proposes a bike bill specifically to regulate e-biking. Registration of e-bikes and tags will make it possible to identify bikers and will have a calming effect on behavior. Bike insurance, not auto insurance, is required because the insurance industry is expert at assessing blame in crashes. Licensing and certification to drive on the streets as with driving will make us all safer. Who can oppose protective gear? The bill would limit speeds.

We need 1,000 signatures. Let’s go get ‘em!
