Non-Monogamous representation on Facebook

The Issue

Non-monogamy is beginning to grow and be seen as a viable option for relationships. Many people have more than one romantic partner and this is becoming less of a "taboo" in society as this kind of relationship becomes more common. Facebook has tried to be diverse, but it's time for them to understand that monogamous, hetero-normative relationships are no longer the default, and that we exist and we want representation. At this time, you can only have one partner on Facebook. You can't have a person tied to your relationship status if they already have one, and this leaves out everyone else within the relationship structure. There have been numerous discussions within the non-monogamy groups of Facebook and everyone seems to agree that it's time for a change. Non-monogamy has a long history in many cultures. In the modern day, there are many forms of ethical non-monogamy and these structures should have representation on one of the largest social media platforms in the world. It's time for a change to how Facebook views personal, romantic relationships. It's time that we have a tangible place in society and not just as subculture.

We want representation. Our relationships and our lifestyle is valid.
