Concerning Meta Quest 2 Controller Drift

The Issue

With the release of Quest 2, Meta has brought Virtual Reality to the mainstream at a manageable price point ($249.99 for 256gb).  However, a handful of issues are preventing users from having an exceptional experience.  One of the most common and pervasive issues plaguing Quest 2 Users is the onset of Controller Drift.  Controller Drift is recognized as false input on either Controller’s Analogue Stick, that results in movement on screen when no corresponding input was given by the User.  Controller Drift appears suddenly as early as the first few days of use, often (but not necessarily) gets worse over time, making games unplayable and resulting in an unpleasant experience.  When Customers contact Meta Quest Support, they receive formulaic responses that ask for the same information multiple times, provide no real solution, ask the Customer to wait days to weeks as Support “researches” the issue, and ultimately offer the Customer RMA codes for the Customer to send in their Controllers, wait for Meta to receive and inspect them, before finally shipping replacements back to the Customer.  This current process leaves the Customer unable to use their new headset for several weeks, resulting in potential lost income for Meta and Quest Developers.  We respectfully ask Meta to alter this process in the following ways. First, Meta should immediately recognize Controller Drift as a pervasive Manufacturing or Design defect, and provide a streamlined means of requesting replacement Controllers. Secondly, this replacement shall be made in advance of receiving the defective Controllers in return, with the understanding that if the defective Controllers are not received by Meta within 30 days of the Customer receiving their replacement units, a full retail cost of each Controller replaced would be incurred and charged to the Customer’s Credit Card on file.  Finally, until or unless the Controller Design is perfected to avoid the occurrence of Controller Drift, Meta Quest 2 Controllers shall heretofore be covered by an extended 2 year warranty.  We make these requests in good faith and a desire to see every Quest 2 Customer have an outstanding experience, thereby promoting continued sales growth of Quest 2 and overall acceptance/embrace of Virtual Reality by the mainstream.
