We are overjoyed to have reached so many. It seems this petition could be going viral, a very good thing. However a few days ago it was reported that Mark Zuckerberg is insisting that the real name policy does not harm trans people. That is pretty outrageous, and shows us how much work we have left to do.
What can we all do now besides continuing to share the petition and the supporting article (link below)?
We can reach out and have conversations with everyone we know. This is not a trans problem or a domestic violence victim issue, this it OUR issue. This is about privacy and dignity and the obligation that Facebook has to not allow its service to destroy lives or make people miserable.
We are setting our goal at 10,000 signatures which for us is a lot, but for Facebook, it is not a huge number. As our numbers get larger, our collective voice gets louder. We will not allow Facebook to protect trolls while it strips vulnerable people of their protections.
Keep on talking folks. We are getting there. Thank you all for caring. We will prevail because we are on the side of right.
