Petition update‘Meta INC - Facebook’ and ‘Samasource Kenya EPZ - Sama’- Obey Court Orders And Pay Us!AS OF 1ST MAY, 2023. WE RESOLVED TO UNIONIZE AT A LANDMARK SUMMIT IN NAIROBI

May 3, 2023
  1. We Resolved to unionize, litigate and rectify. We were denied the right to unionize at Facebook's outsourcer Sama, and those like Daniel Moutang among others who tried to organize were laid off or fired.
  2. It is time to move past the era of exploitation where tech companies like Facebook its subcontractor prioritize profit over the safety of their content moderators. We will not rest until our voices are heard, and our rights as workers and human beings are respected. We know this battle will be long and will have many twists and turns.
  3. We believe that our human rights were violated while working for this subcontractor of Facebook. Despite the court orders, Sama, Meta, and Majorel have continued to act with contempt towards their content moderators. Sama is withholding the last month's salaries and is refusing to renew the work permits of foreign moderators - placing people in limbo and terror of poverty. This is harassment and intimidation from a company who claims it lifts Africans out of poverty. But we know better, and we will not be silenced.
  4. We strongly condemn the behavior of Samasource, Meta, and Majorel in this matter. We thank our lawyer Mercy Mutemi at Nzili & Sumbi and the tech justice group Foxglove and the Media for their support - but we need much wider support now from civil society and our government and the public at large.
