Extend time for submissions in Treaty Principles Bill
The issue
Submissions for the Treaty Principles Bill closed at 11:59pm on 7 January 2025. Submissions could be made by post or through the New Zealand parliament website.
However, the website was overwhelmed and most people trying to make submissions later on 7 January 2025 were faced with an error message. This seems to have impacted a significant number of people who have been unable to make submissions.
It is an important part of our democracy that people are able to submit on important legislation such as this. Being unable to do so because of technical issues is unacceptable.
The date for submissions on this bill should be extended a further week to 14 January 2025.
