The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion impacts every single Australian, not just the Jewish community.  The issues it seeks to uncover undermine the cohesion and well being of this entire country and I am deeply concerned about the effectiveness of the current Royal Commission.  The commission was given a very limited time to conduct hearings from the outset and it has become apparent that critical aspects of this inquiry have been overlooked or inadequately addressed and require more time and focus.

The commission was meant to be a thorough investigation into the rising tide of antisemitism and the societal tensions it fuels. However, with such a constrained timeline, it has not been possible to call upon all essential witnesses or explore the key drivers thoroughly. Many individuals, particulary those who have been accused of antisemitism as well as those in leadership positions who failed to take appropriate action leading up to the Bondi massacre have not yet had the opportunity to provide their testimonies.

There has been an alarming lack of accountability from political figures. Those who have failed in their leadership roles, individuals who theoretically should have played pivotal roles in preventing the spread of hate, have not been summoned to give evidence. There has also been a reluctance to explore "radical Islam"  we have not heard from the "hate preachers" who took to the streets after October 7, for example. Nor has the role of progressive left wing ideology been fully explored or the fact that the Pro Palestinian movement has strategically linked itself to the education system, the arts and the media. The topic of antizionism requires further clarification and focus.  If the commission ends now, we risk missing a fundamental part of the equation that needs addressing for genuine understanding of the drivers of this unrest and subsequent societal change. 

Sadly, a rushed conclusion will leave too many stones unturned, failing to adequately address the faults within our system and society that allows radical forces to pervade our society. We owe it to those who have suffered, and indeed to the whole community, to demand a meticulous approach.
