The Issue

As a current high school student, I am personally experiencing the strain of our education system. The limited time we have during weekends is not enough to destress, spend quality time with family, and prepare ourselves for another week of academic rigor.

The current two-day weekend model does not provide sufficient downtime for students who are expected to balance schoolwork, extracurricular activities, part-time jobs, and family responsibilities. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), teenagers report stress levels higher than those reported by adults during the school year. This elevated stress can lead to numerous health problems including mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

By extending the weekend by just one day - from two days to three - we can give students a longer brain break which is crucial for their overall wellbeing. A study conducted by Stanford University showed that giving students more time off could improve their cognitive function and memory retention.

This change would also allow more family time which is essential in fostering strong relationships and emotional support systems that contribute significantly towards a student's success both academically and personally.

We urge educational institutions across the country to consider this proposal seriously - it's about prioritizing our students' mental health over outdated traditions. Please sign this petition if you believe in creating an education system that values student wellbeing as much as academic achievement.
