Extend Public Transportation Services to Operate During Shabbat in Rishon LeZion

The Issue

We, the citizens of Rishon LeZion, are deeply affected by the absence of public transportation services during Shabbat. This impacts a broad spectrum of individuals, including families, students, professionals, tourists, and people without private vehicles. Those who seek to spend their Saturdays exploring, spending time with loved ones, or accessing vital services are faced with limited mobility.

The status quo restricts our ability to make the most of our weekends. Friends miss out on bonding, families are unable to explore together, and tourists struggle to experience the full vibrancy of our nation. Moreover, the lack of Shabbat public transportation contributes to traffic congestion and environmental pollution, compounding the challenges faced by our society.

At the same time almost all Gush Dan cities do provide such service to their residents, even Nes Ziona, a neighbouring city 5 times smaller, respects diversity and equality and is letting it’s residents make their own choice whether they are willing to use transport on Shabbat or not.

The time for action is now. We stand at the precipice of change, where inclusivity and choice can be realized. By extending public transportation services to Shabbat, we can foster a society that respects religious practices while offering accessibility for all. This change would not only benefit individuals by granting them the freedom to use public transport on their terms but also alleviate traffic congestion and promote a greener way of life. The urgency lies in recognising the potential for immediate and lasting positive impact on our society.

We urge you to launch transportation services on Shabbat in Rishon LeZion. This initiative is crucial for promoting inclusivity, enhancing economic prospects, reducing traffic congestion, boosting tourism, supporting environmental conservation,  and proving that our beloved city is developing.
