The Issue

As a student at Cesar Chavez High School, I often find myself racing against the clock, barely managing to get from one class to the next on time, let alone have a moment to catch my breath or use the restroom. Our school campus is quite large, with some classrooms located at opposite ends, making it nearly impossible to transition between classes effectively with the current passing period time. This is not just my personal struggle; it affects many of my fellow students as well.

The structure of our school day requires swift movement between classes, often squeezing students for time and causing unnecessary stress. Being late can impact our education and create a sense of anxiety that is detrimental to our learning experience. Furthermore, limited passing time doesn’t account for unforeseen events like elevator breakdowns, hallway congestion, or the need to talk briefly with a teacher. It increasingly becomes difficult to manage, forcing students to choose between being tardy or sacrificing personal health and comfort by skipping restroom breaks.

Extended passing periods would offer a simple and practical solution that improves the quality of student life at Cesar Chavez High School. Increasing the current passing period by even a few minutes would significantly reduce tardiness, allow students time for essential needs, and create a more relaxed and conducive learning environment.

This simple adjustment would allow us to prioritize our education while also caring for our physical well-being. It would demonstrate that student needs are a priority and that the school acknowledges the logistical challenges posed by its campus layout.

Please join me in advocating for a longer passing period to enhance the academic and personal well-being of students at Cesar Chavez High School. Your support and signature can help bring about this necessary change and improve the school experience for all students at Cesar Chavez. Sign today to stand with us for a better school environment.
