Extend Fourth Amendment Protections to All, Regardless of Citizenship

The Issue

I am profoundly shaped and deeply moved by the belief that everyone, irrespective of their immigration status, should be entitled to certain inalienable rights. This is a fundamental principle that I hold dear, and it is the driving force behind my decision to initiate this petition. The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case of United States v. Verdugo-Urquidez has brought to light an alarming fact; the Fourth Amendment does not extend its protection to nonresident aliens' property located on foreign soil against unreasonable searches and seizures by the U.S. government.

This ruling sets a chilling and dangerous precedent, potentially putting millions of individuals at risk of invasive governmental actions without legal recourse or protection under U.S. law. It threatens to undermine the values upon which our free society is built.

The Fourth Amendment was meticulously crafted to protect individuals from unwarranted and arbitrary invasions by governmental authorities into their personal lives and properties. This amendment plays a pivotal role in upholding individual freedom and preserving privacy rights in our society, acting as a bulwark against state overreach.

We firmly believe that these protections should be universal, extending to every person, regardless of their citizenship status, or the geographical location of their property. This is because human rights are a universal concept - they do not stop at borders or discriminate based on nationality. They are inherent to all individuals, simply by being human.

Therefore, we urgently call upon lawmakers, judicial leaders, and all those in positions of power to reconsider this stance. We implore them to ensure that every individual's right against unreasonable searches and seizures is upheld universally under U.S. law. If you share our belief in the universality and inalienability of human rights, we urge you to sign this petition. Together, we can challenge this unjust ruling and make a significant difference in the lives of millions!
