The Issue
My daughter, who was born on August 31st, has already successfully completed her UKG. Repeating the same class would not only waste a valuable year but also hinder her natural pace of learning and growth. She has quickly adapted to the NEP 2020 framework and has demonstrated readiness for Class 1. At this crucial stage of physiological and emotional development, holding her back would add unnecessary stress. Therefore, I earnestly request that she be allowed to progress to Class 1, in alignment with her learning potential.
This issue is not just personal to one family but is a concern for many parents whose children are on the cusp of this age deadline for admission to Class 1 for the academic year 2026-27. While we sincerely thank the Government for the recent decision to provide a 60-day relaxation up to July 31, we find that many children, including mine, could benefit significantly from an extended relaxation of 90 days until August 31, 2026.
Studies have shown that starting formal education too early can impede social and emotional development, particularly in children who are not age-eligible due to rigid cutoffs. Allowing a 90-day extension would offer a more inclusive approach, accommodating children who, while technically younger, are fully prepared to advance academically. NEP 2020 emphasizes flexibility in educational planning and development, focusing on the child's readiness rather than sticking to stringent age parameters. Extending this relaxation to August 31 aligns with these principles and supports a nurturing educational environment for our children.
Moreover, children born towards the end of the admission deadline often face undue pressure to adapt more quickly to educational demands. By extending the deadline, these students can enter a more level playing field, reducing the unnecessary need for repeating levels of instruction they have already mastered. It is a solution aligned with educational equity and efficiency.
We urge the Government to consider this petition earnestly, understanding that an extension doesn't just affect admission statistics, but the fundamental well-being and continuous development of our young learners. Please support this initiative and sign the petition to help all students begin their educational journey in alignment with their personal readiness and potential.
