Extend Child Care Leave Entitlement for Parents in Singapore

Extend Child Care Leave Entitlement for Parents in Singapore
The Issue
As a parent in Singapore, I have exhausted my maximum entitlement of 6 days of child care leave. With the increasing number of pre-school closures, this allocation is simply not enough to ensure our children are properly cared for during these unexpected disruptions.
Singapore has always been a champion when it comes to family values and child welfare. However, the current policy on child care leave does not reflect the realities faced by many parents today. The World Health Organization recommends that children under five should be supervised by a parent or caregiver at all times. Yet, with only six days of child care leave per year, many parents are left scrambling to find alternative arrangements when their child's pre-school closes unexpectedly.
In addition to this strain on families, there is also an economic impact. According to a study by the National University of Singapore (NUS), disruptions in childcare can lead to significant losses in productivity and income for families.
We urge the government of Singapore to review and increase the current allocation of 6 days' childcare leave per year. This will provide much-needed relief for parents striving to balance work commitments with their duty as caregivers.
Please sign this petition if you believe that all parents deserve more support from our government when it comes to caring for our children during unforeseen circumstances such as pre-school closures.
