For over 28 years, I have been a dedicated carer for my son. Like many others in my situation, I receive the Carer's Allowance as a token of support from the government. Yet, we are not eligible for the Blue Light Card - a discount service for the UK's emergency services, NHS, social care sector and armed forces.

Carers play an essential role in our society. According to figures from Carers UK (2019), there are an estimated 6.5 million carers in the UK who save the economy £132 billion per year - close to what is spent on running NHS England annually.

Despite this immense contribution, many carers struggle financially due to limited income and high costs associated with caring duties. The Blue Light Card can provide significant savings on various goods and services that could ease this financial burden.

By extending eligibility for this card to those receiving Carer’s Allowance, we would be acknowledging their invaluable contribution and providing them with much-needed support.
