Expose Misuse of Funds and Substandard Conditions in LA Homeless Shelters

Expose Misuse of Funds and Substandard Conditions in LA Homeless Shelters
The Issue
I am a participant in the program run by LAHSA and First to Serve, branches of the 'inside safe' initiative launched by the mayor's office. Nine months in, I am yet to see any meaningful support, and have been told that my belongings have been discarded before the 30 day notice of being terminated from the program for not following the 3 days we are allowed to be out of our rooms. They are supposed to house people within 3 months, which can be extended to, 6 months if they are really need extended time because of their inability to advocate for clients, lack of care, and the inability to actually do their jobs with the population that is in dire need of assistance within our communities. This petition isn't just about me - it's about all the homeless individuals who are exploited rather than assisted. These organizations claim to use their allocated funding to improve the conditions of the homeless, but we are compelled to stay in hotel rooms infested with cockroaches and plagued with black mold. Despite their promise to provide us with safe interim housing and to work towards permanent solutions, the truth of the matter is far from it. The amount of homeless people in Los Angeles was over 66,000 in 2020 according to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, an increase of 12.7% from the previous year. We urgently demand an investigation into these organizations and their misuse of funding. We plead for transparency in their actions and for them to take their commitment to aiding the homeless seriously. Their pledge isn't just a series of words, it's a lifeline for us. We are not looking for temporary fixes but a permanent and effective solution to end homelessness. Please sign this petition to address the substandard conditions and mismanagement of funds in these shelters. Stand with us in the fight for the rights and lives of the less fortunate in Los Angeles.
