The VA Home Loan program was created to help veterans achieve homeownership as a recognition of their military service. Thousands of veterans choose to live abroad for a variety of legitimate reasons, including employment, retirement, education, family, or continued support of U.S. interests. Regardless of where they live, they have earned the same benefits through honorable service.

This petition asks Congress to review and modernize the VA Home Loan program by exploring a carefully regulated expansion that would allow eligible veterans to use their VA Home Loan benefit to purchase a primary residence in approved foreign countries. Any expansion should include appropriate legal, financial, and consumer protections to safeguard both veterans and taxpayers.

This is not a request for a new benefit. It is a request to modernize an existing one so it better reflects the needs of today's veteran community.
