We request the establishment of a County owned, centrally located, dedicated pickleball facility to meet the demands of our rapidly growing pickleball community.   We urge the County to create a pickleball hub in Van Saun Park or another centrally located site where a minimum of 12 dedicated courts could be accommodated.  

Currently, we face numerous challenges while pursuing our beloved sport. The limited number of courts available across various towns leads to excessive waiting times and frustration among players. This issue not only hampers our ability to enjoy the game but also restricts opportunities for physical activity and social engagement within our community.

In order to have competitive games with comparably skilled players, it is important to have the facilities where people from multiple towns can play together.  Moreover, many towns impose fees on non-residents who wish to play pickleball on public courts. While we understand the need for funding maintenance and improvements, these fees create an additional barrier that discourages non-resident players from participating in this inclusive sport. By establishing a centralized pickleball hub with ample courts accessible to all residents of Bergen County without discriminatory fees, we can foster inclusivity and promote healthy lifestyles.

By expanding pickleball facilities through the creation of a centrally located hub, at Van San Park or a suitable alternative, we can address the needs of our growing pickleball community. This initiative will not only enhance physical and mental well-being but also contribute to the overall quality of life in Bergen County.
