Expand Onsite Before and After School Programs in SRVUSD

The Issue

In the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD), before and after school programs like Kids' Country play a critical role in shaping the formative years of young students. They offer additional education time, promote social interaction, and provide a safe, structured environment, all of which contributes positively to the child's overall development.

Unfortunately, many schools in SRVUSD have massive wait lists (100+ families) to access such programs, thereby limiting the opportunities available to many students. The expansion of these programs across all elementary schools across SRVUSD would be a pivotal step towards equity in education and broadening opportunities for all students. As per the Afterschool Alliance, participation in out-of-school-time programs has been correlated with better academic performance, behavior, and attendance in schools.

Given this, we find it imperative that the Department of Social Services (DSS) Community Care Licensing Group allow for expanding onsite before and after school programs. To support our community's future, we must invest in these essential educational tools for our children today. Sign this petition to request DSS to take immediate and decisive action.
