Expand healthcare Access for Disabled U.S Veterans Residing Overseas

Expand healthcare Access for Disabled U.S Veterans Residing Overseas
The Issue
Dear Fellow Citizens,
We, the undersigned, come together to address a critical issue that demands immediate attention: the lack of comprehensive healthcare access for disabled veterans residing abroad. As concerned individuals deeply committed to upholding the rights and welfare of our veterans, we cannot stand idly by while those who have bravely served our nation face undue challenges in accessing essential medical care.
Disabled veterans, who have sacrificed their physical and mental well-being in service to our country, deserve the highest level of care and support, regardless of their geographic location. However, the current veterans' healthcare system, particularly the Foreign Medical Program (FMP), falls short in meeting the needs of veterans living overseas.
Under the FMP, disabled veterans residing abroad are compelled to seek civilian medical care, bearing the financial burden upfront while awaiting reimbursement. This system not only creates significant financial strain for veterans and their families but also leads to lengthy delays and wrongful denials of claims, jeopardizing veterans' health and well-being.
Furthermore, the coverage provided under the FMP is limited to service-connected treatments, leaving veterans with complex reimbursement processes and uncertainties regarding access to essential medical treatments and medications. This inconsistency in healthcare access raises serious questions about equity and fairness for disabled veterans living abroad.
Additionally, disabled veterans face legal barriers when attempting to access necessary medications directly from the VA due to customs regulations. This regulatory obstacle not only impedes veterans' access to essential healthcare but also poses potential legal ramifications for those who seek alternative solutions out of desperation.
As a nation founded on principles of justice and equality, we have a moral obligation to ensure that all individuals, especially those who have served in defense of our freedoms, have access to comprehensive healthcare. Therefore, we call upon our elected officials to take immediate action to address this pressing issue.
We urge Congress to:
1. Expand veterans' healthcare services to include access to military doctors stationed at U.S. bases outside the country for all disabled veterans residing overseas.
2. Authorize a VA charge card for disabled veterans enrolled in the FMP and residing abroad to cover all medical expenses without upfront payments or reimbursement delays.
3. Streamline the process for disabled veterans to access necessary medications directly from the VA, addressing the legal barriers imposed by customs regulations.
By signing this petition, you are standing in solidarity with our disabled veterans and demanding equitable healthcare access for those who have sacrificed so much for our nation. Together, we can ensure that disabled veterans residing overseas receive the care and support they deserve.
Thank you for your support and advocacy on behalf of our veterans.
