The Issue

We, the undersigned, believe cannabis dispensaries have an important opportunity to improve public emotional safety, awareness, and education for their communities.

Cannabis is widely used for relaxation, stress relief, sleep support, and emotional coping. However, many users are not fully informed about the emotional experiences that may arise when reducing or stopping use.

For some individuals, this can include:
✔ increased anxiety or stress sensitivity
✔ emotional intensity or overwhelm
✔ irritability or mood changes
✔ sleep disruption or vivid dreams
✔ difficulty adjusting emotionally without prior awareness

These experiences can feel confusing, isolating, or distressing—especially when people are not prepared or supported.

🌿 THE GAP IN CURRENT EDUCATION
Cannabis dispensary education often focuses on:

product types and strains
dosage guidance
relaxation benefits
sleep or mood support

However, there is often limited discussion about:

✔ emotional coping shifts when cannabis use changes
✔ withdrawal-related emotional experiences
✔ nervous system adjustment and regulation
✔ practical tools for managing stress and emotional intensity
✔ support options outside of medical or therapy systems

💸 ACCESSIBILITY MATTERS
Many individuals do not have access to:
✔ mental health therapy
✔ insurance coverage
✔ affordable healthcare services
✔ local emotional support systems

In addition, therapy is not always the right or immediate fit for everyone.

This creates a gap where people may be experiencing emotional distress without:
✔ information
✔ tools

✔ or accessible support options

We believe this gap should be addressed with simple, practical, and accessible emotional support education available at the point of cannabis use.

There also should be printed sheets or brochures with information on it that include dosage usage, side effects and withdrawal effects.

🧠 OUR REQUEST
We respectfully ask cannabis dispensaries and regulatory bodies to adopt expanded educational and support practices, including:

🌱 1. Clear Emotional Awareness Education
Information about potential emotional effects when reducing or stopping cannabis use
Transparent, non-alarming guidance about adjustment experiences
Normalization of emotional changes during transition periods

🫁 2. Basic Nervous System Support Tools
Simple breathing techniques (e.g., box breathing, grounding exercises)
Stress regulation cards or printed guides available in-store
QR codes linking to free calming, mindfulness, or relaxation resources

💬 3. Compassionate Staff Communication Training
Non-judgmental language when discussing use changes
Awareness of emotional coping patterns in customers
Supportive responses when customers report stress or overwhelm

🤝 4. Accessible Community Support Resources
Free or low-cost mental wellness resources
Local support directories (not limited to clinical therapy)
Partnerships with community wellness educators

🌼 OUR CORE BELIEF
People deserve access to emotional awareness and support tools—not only when they enter formal healthcare systems, but also in everyday community spaces where coping begins.

💛 WHY THIS MATTERS
This is not about discouraging cannabis use.

It is about:

informed choice
emotional safety
reducing confusion and distress
supporting mental wellbeing
and creating more compassionate community care systems
Awareness does not remove freedom—it strengthens it.

🌿 CLOSING STATEMENT
We believe no one should have to discover emotional withdrawal or adjustment experiences alone.

By improving education and offering simple emotional regulation tools, cannabis dispensaries can become safer, more informed, and more supportive community spaces.

✍️ CALL TO ACTION
We ask dispensaries, policymakers, and community leaders to support expanded emotional education and accessibility for all cannabis users.

🌿 My Personal Story: Why This Matters
I never expected cannabis withdrawal to impact me the way it did.

I had to stop using cannabis suddenly — not by choice, but because something didn’t feel right at the time. I thought it would be difficult, but manageable. I didn’t expect how deeply it would affect my emotions, stress levels, and daily life.

After stopping, everything became louder.

Not just sounds — but emotions, stress, anxiety, and everyday challenges.

Things I normally handled started to feel overwhelming. Stress hit faster. Anxiety spiked quicker. My patience dropped. Even small situations felt bigger and harder to manage.

It felt like my emotional volume had been turned all the way up.

Cannabis had been helping me cope during difficult times — calming my nervous system, softening stress, and helping me manage overwhelming emotions. When I stopped suddenly, I had to relearn how to handle everything without that coping tool.

The hardest part was that no one warned me.

I didn’t know this could happen.
I didn’t know how long it might last.
I didn’t know how to prepare.

Instead, I felt confused, overwhelmed, and frustrated. And it didn’t just affect me — it affected my family, my relationships, and my emotional well-being.

If I had known what to expect, I could have prepared myself.
I could have been gentler with myself.
I could have explained it to my loved ones.
I could have had healthier coping tools ready.

That awareness alone could have helped protect:
• Relationships
• Self-esteem
• Mental health
• Family harmony

This is not about discouraging cannabis use. Many people benefit from cannabis and use it responsibly. This is about awareness, compassion, and support — especially for those who rely on cannabis for emotional coping.

People deserve the full picture.

No one should have to navigate emotional withdrawal or adjustment alone, confused about what’s happening to them. By improving awareness and offering simple emotional support tools, dispensaries and communities can help people feel safer, more informed, and better prepared.

This petition is about compassion, education, and supporting people through all parts of their experience — not just the beginning.

Because awareness doesn’t create fear.
Awareness creates understanding, preparation, and care.
