Expand Autoplan services to include renewal Class 5 Driving License, BCID, BC Health Card

The Issue

As residents of British Columbia, we live with the challenge of periodically renewing our Class 5 driving license, BCID and BC Health Card.

These are repetitive tasks that do not involve anything special in terms of backend work. These are relatively straightforward processes, yet due to limited ICBC locations, we have to take time off work, schedule appointments, and drive away from our local areas. This not only wastes resources but also contributes to pollution, and we lose valuable work hours that could be better utilized elsewhere.

There's a simple solution to this problem: The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) should adapt and extend its services to include renewals of Class 5 driving licenses, BCID and BC Health Cards in all Autoplan locations. By adding photo-capturing set-ups and creating limited but necessary portal and access to the ICBC system, Autoplan locations can become full-service spots.

This will greatly benefit the public by providing speedy and efficient services, reducing unnecessary congestion at ICBC Centres and parking problems. Furthermore, it would contribute to preserving our environment by reducing air pollution - a concern that is ever more important as we continue to see the effects of climate change.

On a larger scale, this initiative could also contribute to saving British Columbians' valuable time. If we consider hours taken off work, as well as travel time, saved for every resident who renews their documents, we could collectively save hundreds of thousands of valuable work hours every year.

This will also contribute to the quality of life as time spent on ICBC centres every so many years can be spent with children, family and friends.

It's clear that such an addition to the services  already being offered by ICBC through Autoplan Centers will significantly improve ordinary lives. Therefore, we urge ICBC to consider this proposal and make Class 5 driving license, BCID, and BC Health Card renewals more easily accessible at all Autoplan locations.

Similar system is already in operation in interior BC remote communities like Port Hardy
