The Issue

Tarik Brown, a law-abiding citizen and family man, is currently living a nightmare that no one should have to face. On May 22, 2021, in Fulton County, Georgia, Tarik went to pick up his daughter, and he was caught in a horrifying crossfire. Shot 18 times, In the mist of him getting shot tragically, someone lost their life. Tarik's only 'crime' was attempting to rescue his daughter from danger.

Despite Tarik's daughter making two urgent calls to 911, help never was dispatched and police never came to prevent the tragedy. The real perpetrators remain unknown; instead, the system wrongfully accused and subsequently convicted Tarik. He is now serving a life sentence – plus 10 years – with no possibility of parole. This judgment was proclaimed even though evidence pointed to Tarik's innocence. What is more, he was falsely branded a 'convicted felon with a firearm', when in fact, he is a Current licensed carrier in the state of Georgia, and has never before been convicted as a felon.

Such a miscarriage of justice not only shatters Tarik’s life but also the lives of his family who are left grappling with the harsh reality of having an innocent loved one torn away. Despite his body conditions from the shooting he was refused surgery and treated poorly in Fulton County Jail( RiceStreet) and is now in a wheelchair! Currently, thousands of convicts are exonerated each year in the United States through advancements in investigative techniques and resourceful legal professionals. It is high time we bring justice to Tarik. This petition, therefore, calls on Governor Brian Kemp, Chief Justice Harold D. Melton, and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to reopen and reevaluate Tarik Brown's case.

Today, we stand as a community, as fellow citizens, for Tarik Brown, an innocent man snared within unjust circumstances. Help us right this wrong. Please sign and share this petition to demand justice for Tarik Brown.
