As a member of the working class, I have experienced firsthand the burden of excessive taxation on overtime hours. Every time we try to earn extra money by working beyond our regular 40-hour work week, we find ourselves taxed heavily. This is not just my story, but the story of many hardworking individuals across our nation who are striving to make ends meet.

The current tax system discourages us from putting in extra hours at work. Instead of being rewarded for our hard work and dedication, we are penalized with additional taxes. This is counterproductive and hinders economic growth.

According to a report by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), overtime pay constitutes a significant portion of income for many American workers (CBO Report on Overtime Pay, 2016). Yet these earnings are subject to high tax rates that can deter workers from seeking additional hours.

We propose that all hours worked over 40 per week be made tax exempt. Such an initiative would not only provide financial relief to millions of workers but also stimulate economic activity through increased spending power.
