Exempt driving licence holders and CBT renewals from motorcycle theory test

Exempt driving licence holders and CBT renewals from motorcycle theory test

The Issue

As a full car licence holder, I've already gone through the hassle of passing the theory test and possess a legal document that proves my understanding of road safety and traffic laws—my driving licence. It feels unreasonable that I must retake a similar theory test when seeking to ride a motorcycle, especially after renewing my CBT (Compulsory Basic Training).

This sentiment is shared by many others who find that having to pass the motorcycle theory test repeatedly seems less about ensuring road safety and more about generating revenue. The fundamental road laws remain largely unchanged, making re-examination redundant for experienced drivers like us.

Repeating this process for both full car licence holders and repeat CBT renewers, who have consistently demonstrated their road knowledge and safety, not only undermines our previous efforts but also places an unnecessary financial burden on us.

Instead, the motorcycle theory test should remain mandatory only for first-time CBT passers and individuals who do not already hold a driving licence. By doing so, we can strike a balance between ensuring public safety and respecting those who have already proven their competence on the road.

Please join me in urging the authorities to exempt full car licence holders and repeat CBT renewals from the motorcycle theory test requirement. Sign this petition to support a change in the current legislation that will recognise our existing qualifications and uphold true road safety principles without unnecessary hurdles. Together, we can make a difference.
