I am an ex serviceman who has served my country with pride and dedication. After years of service, I was awarded a military pension as a token of gratitude for my sacrifices. However, the current benefit system considers this military pension as part of my income and deducts it from the benefits I receive. This is not only unjust but also disrespectful to all veterans who have risked their lives for our nation.

The current policy fails to recognize that a military pension is not just an income; it's recognition for years of service and sacrifice. It's compensation for the physical and mental toll that military service can take on a person. According to the Department of Defense (DoD), over 2 million veterans received a military retirement pay in 2019 (Source: DoD). These are individuals who have dedicated significant portions of their lives in service to our country.

It's time we respect our veterans' contributions by excluding their pensions from benefit calculations. Let us honor them properly by ensuring they receive both their full benefits and pensions without any deductions or penalties.
