Petition updateStop over-development ruining KingstonKingston to see higher growth than Croydon with CrossRail 2

Kingston is facing a double whammy of monumental proportions which will see residential development across the Borough on the scale of twice the amount happening over the whole of Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea and greater than that planned for Croydon

This information is all from the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment 2017 which forms part of the evidence base for Kingston's "growth target" in the London Plan at the Examination in Public. I was there today speaking with community group, Just Space

As a Metropolitan Town Centre, Kingston Town is already expected to deliver new housing within 1 km of the town centre boundary at the highest possible density in London.

Our Borough housing target has been set in the draft London Plan at 1364 units a year for the first 10 years and a massive 30,008 homes from 2019 to 2041. This includes possible plans for development of about 8000 units in the Hogsmill Valley, 750 on the Chessington Golf Course and 643 units in the Surbiton Station Car Park

On top of this, if the council achieves its aim of designating the Borough as a "nascent Opportunity Area" the density of new housing will be expected to be at "Central PLUS" levels, which will mean a further uplift in our housing figures. And our Opportunity Area must deliver a MINIMUM of 9000 homes and 5000 jobs, the minimum number of homes being part of our Borough target

In addition, as soon as Crossrail 2 starts to happen, our housing target for large sites from 2019 to 2041 within the CR2 areas - defined as anywhere 1km from a CR2 station as well as "other connector/feeder stations" - will increase by a whopping 16,000 units from 11,000 to 27,000

This gives us a total minimum Borough wider housing target of 46000 homes and at least 5000 jobs

This has been known by the Council since 2017 but no officer or councillor of Kingston Council has thought to inform residents, even during the local elections last year

Please let your friends and neighbours know about our council's secret plans for the Borough and ask them to sign this petition.

I will be asking for more help to spread the word shortly. Thank you
