ESP: El Museo Atlántico, de Jason deCaires Taylor, nació con el propósito de crear un arrecife artificial y de incentivar el desarrollo y crecimiento de la biodiversidad y la vida marina en las costas de Lanzarote.

Ahora, y tras casi 7 años desde su inauguración, habiéndose convertido el Museo en un ecosistema marino, el cabildo de Lanzarote intenta sacar las estatuas del agua, sin aviso previo por parte de las autoridades, ni una razón aparente más allá de la rivalidad entre partidos políticos.

El Museo Atlántico no es sólo un importante reclamo turístico de las islas Canarias que genera empleo y turismo sostenible y de calidad. Es, además, un refugio para cientos de especies, muchas de ellas protegidas, cuyo hábitat puede verse severamente afectado si se sigue adelante con esta iniciativa.

ENG: The Museo Atlántico by Jason DeCaires Taylor was created with the purpose of becoming an artificial reef and to create an ecosystem in the waters of Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.

7 years after its opening, the museum has become one of the most iconic dive sites on the island, the Lanzarote Government tries to extract the statues, without notice or proper reason apart from apparent conflict between political parties.

The Museo Atlántico it's not only a very important touristic attraction from the Canary Islands, which generates important business for local dive centers; it is also a shelter for many different species, some of them highly endangered; which are highly threaten by the possible destruction of their habitat.
