Boycott Uber for mistreatment of drivers and customers.

Boycott Uber for mistreatment of drivers and customers.
The Issue
Since its inception, Uber has managed to grow despite their culture of disrespect and exploitation. Uber has a track record of mistreating its drivers and passengers (customers). You may ask how or why Uber was still able to grow? It is simply because they brought into the market a simple, cashless solution to an everyday demand - the need to move from point A to point B. It is also because such a solution requires a vast amount of resources that makes it extremely difficult for competitors to penetrate the market and offer similar services, with a focus on higher quality treatment to customers and drivers.
Uber has now grown to such a size that the people who run it find themselves in a position of power, where they are the supplier of benefits to drivers (who rely on Uber as their source of income and many of whom have no other employment prospect) and passengers (who are faced with the choice of either waiting 45+ minutes for a traditional cab or succumbing to the convenience that Uber offers). Uber has positioned itself such that millions of drivers and passengers rely so heavily on it, that they do not care about a disappointed driver or a cheated customer.
As a former Uber driver myself, and a former customer of Uber, I have experienced both sides of the injustice and disrespect that Uber has to offer. Uber seems to only care about its failed bottom line and places its own needs far above those of the people who allowed it to become what it is today.
Some of the things that Uber drivers have to deal with are:
- Enduring the massive cuts that Uber takes out of fares, even though drivers incur nearly all the costs of providing the service
- Being cheated of part of their earnings due to Uber's flawed GPS system which sometimes does not pay drivers the amount owed to them (yes, this has happened with me multiple times, and appeals for trip adjustments don't always work out for you, even when you are in the right)
- Being cheated of bonus/promotion/quest earnings due to Uber's rudimentary software that fails to register the completion of tasks that give the drivers bonus earnings
- Wrongful deactivation and support personnel who are rude and exercise no commonsense when drivers try to appeal a decision that is baseless and lacking in any evidence whatsoever
- Being told that they are replaceable and their concerns don't matter
- Having to drive around criminals and/or individuals inclined to engage in violent behaviors toward drivers, simply because Uber does not run background checks on passengers/customers
- Dealing with the remnants of the "tip-less" culture that Uber created at inception, where Uber claimed that the tip was already included in the fare. This, however, is far from true and Uber drivers continue to struggle to make ends
- The emotional pain of receiving 1-star ratings from passengers for absolutely no reason and Uber not allowing the appeal of any ratings; get enough of those low star ratings and guess what, you're deactivated
Some of the things that Uber passengers have to deal with are:
- Disrespectful, lewd, and harassing behavior from drivers whom Uber does not keep in-check
- Being charged late/cancellation fees because of drivers that never show up or take too long to show up
- Being charged for trips even when a driver picks up the wrong passenger
- Uber support not taking complaints seriously, being dismissive and condescending toward customers, and failing to resolve disputes appropriately
Things have gotten out of hand, and Uber needs to realize that they are not too big to treat their drivers and passengers with respect. There are other fledgling competitors out there and it is time to begin opting to use these other companies for transportation. It is only when Uber feels the heat in their bottom line that they will either learn to change their ways or simply throw the towel in the bucket and let other companies take it from here.
