Ban the Russian Federation from Eurovision 2022
The Issue
To the executive board of the European Broadcasting Union:
On this sad day we, the fans and followers of the Eurovision Song Contest, ask you to ban the Russian Federation and it`s broadcaster Channel One from entering the upcoming 66th edition of the Contest which is set to take place in Turin, Italy.
Due to the most recent developments concerning the Eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk we feel like there is no other way to ensure the integrity of the Contest that brings together people, families and cultures all over the world for more than six decades now.
The current government of the Russian Federation under the leadership of Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin does not only break international law and the Minsk Protocol by ordering troups into said regions (22.02.2022) but also directly threatens everything that had to be carefully build back up after World War I, II and the Cold War. In the wake of the mentioned tragedies the Eurovision Song Contest was implemented to strengthen the bond between the nations of Europe through a festival of culture, democracy, peace and togetherness.
In order to still live by these standards today we can and must not accept one member of the EBU invading another one.
Without a doubt Russian entries in recent years have enriched the diversity of Eurovision and we would be sad to see them go but we cannot watch from the sidelines as the event we hold dear is tarnished by warmongering as well as blind hatred of a small powerhungry circle believing Ukraine, a much loved member of the Eurovision family and two time host of the Contest, should not exist in the first place.
It is a lot to ask, that much we know. We also understand that the situation is still ongoing and that things could change any moment. Nonetheless it is our deepest desire to show our Ukrainian friends that we stand united by their side. This can, in our humble opinions, only be archieved by seriously considering banning Russia from Eurovision this year. We therefore ask you to hear our calls, to listen to your conscience and to act accordingly.
