Výzva občanům Spojeného království Velké Británie a Severního Irska

My, Evropané, s nadějí přijímáme dohodu členských zemí Evropské unie a Velké Británie ze dne 19. 2. 2016 jako kompromis, důležitý k setrvání vaší země ve společenství demokratických států Evropy.

Oceňujeme postoj premiéra Davida Camerona, který doporučil, aby Británie v Evropské unii setrvala.

Úzké sepětí demokratických evropských zemí našemu kontinentu po desítky let zaručovalo mír, politickou stabilitu, hospodářskou a sociální soudržnost a důstojný život pro velkou část Evropanů. Česká republika, jíž jsme občany, jako malá země ve střední Evropě byla v minulosti několikrát násilně připravena o svobodu a demokracii. Členství v Evropské unii pro nás i naše spoluobčany znamená mimo jiné úsilí o ochranu a udržování těchto hodnot.

K současným procesům uvnitř Evropské unie můžeme mít řadu výhrad. Britský pohled však přináší důležitou reflexi a cenné podněty k dalšímu zamyšlení nad směřováním Evropské unie. Mějme proto nadále vůli k hledání kompromisů a zachovejme soudržnost a solidaritu mezi členskými státy.

Evropa se v současné době potýká s množstvím výzev. Jednou z hrozeb je jednání těch, kteří na evropskou stabilitu a svobodu zvenčí útočí a chtějí jednotu Evropy oslabit. Právě s těmito problémy se v současné době v České republice potýkáme a tímto si dovolujeme se o tuto zkušenost podělit. Pokud Evropa bude táhnout za jeden provaz, můžeme nebezpečí úspěšně čelit.

Velká Británie, kolébka demokracie, vždy pevně stála na straně svobody. Její občané statečně obětovali životy a znají její cenu. Rezignace velkého a statečného národa na společný evropský projekt by znamenala oslabení a ohrožení nás všech. Vzájemný dialog v rámci Evropské unie a umění kompromisu je naše naděje pro silnou a stabilní Evropu.

Vážení občané Velké Británie a Severního Irska, Evropané, vyzýváme vás, podpořte svého premiéra a v referendu se vyslovte pro setrvání vaší země v Evropské unii.

An appeal to the citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

We, Europeans, view the agreement reached by European Union member states on 19 February 2016 as a hopeful compromise essential to Great Britain’s remaining part of a community of democratic European countries.

We appreciate the position held by Prime Minister David Cameron who is recommending that Britain remain part of the European Union.

For decades, the close relationship between democratic European countries on our continent has provided a guarantee of peace, political stability and economic and social cohesion while enabling Europeans to indulge in a respectable way of life. As citizens of the Czech Republic, a small Central European country, we have been forcibly deprived of freedom and democracy several times in the past. For us and for our fellow citizens, being a member of the European Union means, among other things, that we are thus capable of protecting and maintaining these fragile values.

We may not always agree on the right way to implement various internal processes within the European Union. The British perspective, however, has always been a key source of inspiration, providing valuable suggestions for the further reflection on the direction the European Union is taking. Let us therefore declare our willingness to continue seeking compromises while preserving cohesion and solidarity among all member states.

It is essential to acknowledge that Europe is currently facing a number of external threats. The actions of parties attacking European stability and freedom with campaigns designed to divide and destabilize the European Union constitute a hazard which the Czech Republic has lately been confronted with; we would like to point out that our experience has shown that these attacks do in fact present a real threat. A truly united Europe will, however, be able to withstand any such dangers.

Great Britain, the cradle of democracy, has always stood firmly on the side of freedom. Its citizens have sacrificed their lives for it and know its price well. Were such a great and brave country to leave the common European project, we would all assuredly be weakened as a result. We hope that this will not be the case and that mutual dialogue within the European Union and the art of compromise will instead propel us towards a stronger and more stable Europe.

We appeal to you, citizens of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Europeans, to support your Prime Minister and to use the referendum to ensure that your country remains part of the European Union.
