Etsy are still refusing to remove seahorses. The big question is WHY?? If they are as caring for the planet as they claim in their mission statement why don't they remove the sale of these endangered creatures? Our last 3 emails to Etsy and their CEO have been ignored - how rude. And terrible customer service.
By contrast I reported an illegal seahorse product for sale on Ebay's UK website. The guy I spoke to said straightaway it violated their policy on trading in endangered species and said it would be removed. Whilst I had him on the phone, together we checked out 6 more listings on Ebay's US site and the guy said they would be removed. A 15-minute phone call was all it took to get 7 illegal listings removed. Yet, with Etsy, 3 or 4 months down the line and they are stalling and ignoring requests to remove illegal seahorse listings. What a heartless and rude corporation who prefer profits to sustaining aour planet - they need to remove their hypocritical mission statements.
With reference to Amazon, over the last couple of months I tried to get a seahorse listing removed. reporting the item did nothing and emails kept resulting in me being passed from pillar to post and receiving automated emails. However, enough is enough! Persistent emailing and copying in the UK CEO and the Amazon founder eventually resulted in them removing the listing and inviting us to let them know of others.
We emailed Etsy to advise them howing caring of the environment Ebay and Amazon are - but, as usual, no response.
Etsy also said they wanted to consult with experts regarding seahorses - The Seahorse Trust is a charity devoted to ONLY seahorses and are experts in their field. Yet Etsy refer to them as "laypeople" and want to get the advice from big multinational animal charities who, although they do good, are not seahorse experts. Another stalling tactic. There should be no consulting to be done - the advice is simple: seahorses will be extinct within 30 years and Etsy are creating another demand outlet for them by allowing them to be sold illegally on their website. Therefore, sales should be banned.
Please, please keep sharing the petition wherever you can - media websites, news websites. media Facebook pages, news Facebook pages, nature and environmental Facebook pages, Facebook groups, tweet it everywhere - seahorses need our help and a big corporation should stop contributing to the extinction of a highly unusual species. Thank you.
