Establish Youth Hubs in Regional Areas for Better Youth Support
The issue
I am a firm believer that every young person deserves to be safe and have the necessary opportunities and supports to become the best person they strive to be. In light of this, I am advocating for the establishment of more Youth Hubs in regional areas, specifically designed to support young people aged 10 to 25 years of age. Our demonstration project, a Youth Hub located in Gosford NSW operated between 2022 and 2024, was an undeniable success, supporting over 3000 young people to keep them safe, connected, and guided along their pathway to adulthood. Sadly the Hub closed in April 2024 due to lack of funding.
But now in 2026 we are working hard to bring it back - this time as a permanent space for our community. We need your help to ensure that safe, supportive and accessible spaces remain a top priority for our region.
Research shows that these hubs are highly effective in providing necessary support for our youth. They serve as safe spaces where young people can access resources, receive guidance and engage with their community positively. The impact on youth mental health, improved social networks, and overall well-being is significant.
However, without an adequate funding commitment from local authorities or government bodies, these hubs cannot continue their essential work nor expand into other regional areas where they are desperately needed.
The establishment and long term commitment to Youth Hubs will have a lasting positive impact on the NSW Central Coast region, as will the addition of satellite hubs linked across the Central Coast's 1600sq kms. Hubs provide improved access and connection to support services for our youth population - a demographic that makes up almost 20% of the Central Coast - over 60,000 people! (Australian Bureau of Statistics).
We implore you not just as concerned citizens but also as individuals who believe in nurturing future generations through appropriate support systems. Let's give our young people the opportunity they deserve by ensuring continued operation and expansion of these vital Youth Hubs across regional areas.
