Establish Sonomia as a Recognized Sovereign Nation

Establish Sonomia as a Recognized Sovereign Nation
The issue
In today’s interconnected global society, the right to self-determination is pivotal. This right must be extended to the people of Sonomia, who currently lack the resources, recognition and structural benefits that come with being considered a nation. Sonomia, a thriving community with a unique culture and rich history, has been functioning independently without formal international acknowledgment.
It's important to note that the Montevideo Convention of 1933 sets out four core prerequisites for statehood: a defined territory, a stable population, a government, and diplomatic relations with other states. Sonomia meets all these criteria. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) also uphold the right to self-determination as a fundamental principle under international law.
With these details, it is crucial that international bodies and governments acknowledge Sonomia's sovereignty and extend to it the recognition it deserves, thereby enabling it to engage more effectively with the rest of the world. It will also allow Sonomians to access the benefits of membership in international organizations such as the United Nations.
Let us amplify the voice of Sonomia and echo their right to be recognized as a sovereign nation. Show your support by adding your signature. Together, let us make the call, and help Sonomia claim the place it rightfully deserves on the global stage. Please sign this petition.
