Dear [MP's Name],

I hope this letter finds you well. As one of your constituents, I am reaching out to seek your support in addressing a pressing issue that affects many families post-divorce or separation, specifically the challenges faced by targeted parents.

I have personally experienced the difficulties that arise from the current system, which often denies targeted parents the support and justice they deserve. In response, I have initiated a change.org petition that has garnered over 1300 signatures within a week, highlighting the urgency and significance of this matter.

The issue at hand revolves around situations where children reject a parent post-divorce or separation. Current court systems operate on 'the wishes and feelings of the child,' often resulting in the targeted parent being unfairly denied access to their child, despite being a loving and protective figure. This rejection by children is, in many cases, a defensive splitting reaction, stemming from the power dynamic in the family—a survival mechanism in the face of abuse and trauma.

Research indicates that children losing access to a parent are at high risk of depression and self-harm, making it crucial to protect their well-being. I propose the establishment of a 'Charter of Rights for Targeted Parents Post-Divorce/Separation,' which includes the following key points:

Parents have the right to be treated with respect by court/social services/Cafcass, etc.
Parents should have access to their children, covering various aspects unless proven harmful.
Parents have the right to attend school events, receive updates, and engage in their children's education.
Parents should be given all information regarding their children's medical issues.
Parents should not be expected to pay child maintenance if denied access to their child.
Beyond the age of 18, parents cannot be charged with criminal offenses for contacting their children.
Enforceable penalties for breaking court orders.
Acknowledgment that parents act in the best interests of their children.
Cap on solicitors' fees.
A system to review judgments with universal guidelines and accountability in the family court system.
I kindly request your support in presenting this issue in Parliament and advocating for changes to current laws. These changes are crucial for the well-being of both children and parents, and I believe they will contribute to a fairer and more just legal system.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to your support.

Yours sincerely,
