Establish Immediate Return of Confiscated Student Cell Phones

Establish Immediate Return of Confiscated Student Cell Phones
The Issue
I experienced firsthand the struggles of a confiscated mobile phone in school. Four days ago, my phone was taken during school hours and I have been unable to get it back due to poor weather conditions making it difficult for my mom to collect it. This happens to students daily and can last much longer than my own four-day ordeal. The theoretical potential of being without a cell phone for an entire month due to parental unavailability or a hectic schedule is not far-fetched.
The ability for students to reclaim their phones after class or at least by the end of the day introduces a more realistic and practical solution.
We need schools to change their policies regarding confiscated items, especially cell phones which have become a necessity in our daily lives. Indeed, according to the Pew Research Center, 96% of Americans own a cell phone of some kind with teenagers being among the most frequent users (source: Pew Research Center, 2019). This statistic underscores how important mobile phones are in maintaining communication, especially for students and their parents.
Don't let students be cut off for long periods from this vital communication tool. Reconsider the regulations to allow for more immediate return of confiscated cell phones. Please sign this petition to support this cause.
