The Issue

Living with a functional neurological disorder (FND) is a daily challenge that few understand. My journey with FND has given me a profound insight into how misunderstood and stigmatized this condition is in our community. This disorder, which affects many individuals worldwide, is often invisible to those who have not experienced it firsthand. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness and understanding leads to misdiagnoses, mistreatment, and mental health challenges for those afflicted.

Functional neurological disorder is a condition where patients experience neurological symptoms such as seizures, limb weakness, or movement disorders without a clear neurological cause. According to research from reputable medical institutions, FND is one of the most common conditions seen in neurology clinics, yet it remains shrouded in mystery and misinterpretation. The sufferers, often feeling alone and unheard, struggle not only with their symptoms but with the stigma and skepticism of those around them.

To bring light to this misunderstood disability, we propose the establishment of a Functional Neurology Disorder Awareness Day. This day would serve as a platform to educate the public, dispel myths, and provide support for those who have FND. Schools, hospitals, and workplaces could use this opportunity to host informational sessions, sharing stories and experiences of those living with FND to foster empathy and understanding.

By increasing awareness, we can not only improve the quality of life for those affected but also drive further research and funding into finding more effective treatments and support systems. It is time that we recognize the impact of FND on individuals and their families and take a stand to educate and inform.

Join me in advocating for this important cause. Sign this petition to call on community leaders, policymakers, and health organizations to establish a Functional Neurology Disorder Awareness Day. Together, we can make a difference and create a world that is more informed and compassionate about FND.
