I am currently embroiled in a custody battle that is biased towards the mother, regardless of what is best for the child. This personal struggle has highlighted a systemic issue - the lack of equal parental rights between fathers and mothers. The importance of both parents in a child's life cannot be overstated. A child's DNA comes from both parents, which signifies that both have an equal role to play in their upbringing.

In many states and counties, there exists an unjust leaning towards mothers in custody cases. This bias disregards the fact that fathers are equally capable of providing love, care, and support to their children. According to Pew Research Center (2018), fathers are just as likely as mothers to see parenting as central to their identity.

It is time we challenge this outdated perspective and advocate for equality in parental rights. We must ensure that decisions made by family courts prioritize the welfare of children rather than perpetuating gender biases.

We call upon lawmakers to review existing family laws with an aim towards establishing equality between fathers' and mothers' rights. Let us strive for a system where every decision made puts our children's best interests first.
